Join Julie Zickefoose, renowned wildlife rehabilitator, prolific artist and author, naturalist, and conservationist as she shares the true and heartwarming story of Jemima as told in her book: Saving Jemima: Life and Love with a Hard Luck Jay (Houghton Mifflin, 2019).
When Jemima, a young orphaned Blue Jay, was brought to Julie Zickefoose as a tailless, palm-sized bundle of fluff. Starved and very sick, Jemima required constant care if she was to eventually be released. Once released, Jemima returned with a deadly disease and Julie then had to medicate a free-flying wild bird. Needless to say, Julie fell hard for this engaging, feisty, and funny Jay — a creative muse and source of strength through her own heartbreaking changes.
