Monthly and Seasonal Educational Programs

Each month from September through April, VAAS hosts an educational program on a topic of interest to our members. The program start at 6:00 pm with conversation and refreshments, followed by VAAS business.  The educational program begins at 6: 30 pm. Learn more about our monthly programs.

Coinciding with the Rookery birds' breeding season and high visitor time from January through Easter, a Monday morning series is offered featuring a wide variety of topics about birds, birding, and other environmental topics.  Consult the Calendar for our Mondays @ 10 offerings.

Youth Education Programs

Venice Area Audubon Society maintains a long-standing and growing commitment to conservation education for our local children through relationships with Sarasota County Public Schools and other public outreach. We endeavor to introduce children to the natural world and encourage a care and concern for nature by engaging their natural curiosity, supporting Sarasota County Schools science and language arts curriculum standards, and offering opportunities for children to observe and experience nature with the hope of encouraging life-long learning and a further commitment to conservation as they grow up.

Rookery Education

Docents and Stewards: Docents provide information, printed reference materials, Audubon membership information, and loan scopes and binoculars to Rookery visitors. Rookery Stewards help keep the pavilion, walking path, and perimeter clean and safe. Contact: Bill Fairbank, wgfairbank@gmail.com.
