Education at the Venice Area Audubon SocietyThe Venice Area Audubon Society offers a variety of educational programs. Our programs are busiest from late fall through April when visitors and part-time residents return to the area. Our all-volunteer organization offers birding field trips, monthly lectures, youth educational programs, and others. Activities are open to the public and participants are encouraged to become members and become involved as volunteers. Educational programs are one of the core focus areas of Venice Area Audubon Society and encompasses a variety of projects and opportunities to both learn and volunteer. When participating in VAAS programs, please follow recommended COVID health and safety precautions. |
Birding Field TripsVolunteer hosts lead field trips from October through April at various sites in the area. Join us to learn about local birds and other flora and fauna! Learn more about our field trips. Monthly Educational ProgramsEach month from September through May, VAAS hosts an educational program on a topic of interest to our members. The program start at 6:00 pm with conversation and refreshments, then at 6:30 pm there is a brief VAAS Membership Meeting followed by the educational program. Learn more about our monthly programs. Youth Education ProgramsVenice Area Audubon Society maintains a long-standing and growing commitment to conservation education for our local children through relationships with Sarasota County Public Schools and other public outreach. We endeavor to introduce children to the natural world and encourage a care and concern for nature by engaging their natural curiosity, supporting Sarasota County Schools science and language arts curriculum standards, and offering opportunities for children to observe and experience nature with the hope of encouraging life-long learning and a further commitment to conservation as they grow up.
Rookery EducationDocents and Stewards: Docents provide information, printed reference materials, Audubon membership information, and loan scopes and binoculars to Rookery visitors. Rookery Stewards help keep the pavilion, walking path, and perimeter clean and safe. Contact: Bill Fairbank, wgfairbank@gmail.com.
