During our two-hour program at Archbold Biological Station near Lake Wales, we’ll get an overview of the research station and Archbold’s conservation work including with the Florida Wildlife Corridor and take a walking nature tour with discussion of the local ecology. Florida’s only endemic bird, the Florida Scrub Jay, has been a research subject at Archbold for over 50 years, providing researchers an amazing view into the life of the scrub jay, along with the species’ future amid fire, climate change, and habitat loss.
Early birders can stop at nearby Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area en route to our 10:00 start time. We’ll gather at Archbold Biological Station at 9:45 to begin our tour promptly at 10:00 AM. Two hiking trails on the property will allow for independent birding after our tour.
Walking tour will cover trails and uneven ground. Bring a water bottle and sun protection as needed, along with lunch/snacks. Picnic tables are available.
Registration is required. The cost is $25 per person.
We will organize an 7:30 AM departure from the Venice Audubon Center to carpool with an ETA of 9:30 AM at Archbold.
Liability waiver is required for all participants. Please download and complete the liability waiver to bring with you to the event.
