Guided bird walk at Oscar Scherer State Park every Thursday at 8:30 AM. Venice Audubon provides a walk leader the first two Thursdays of the month. The first Thursday is guided by Bill Fairbank. The second Thursday is guided by Rick Cordner. The third, fourth and fifth Thursdays are guided by Peter Brown of Sarasota Audubon.
Oscar Scherer State Park is a wildlife haven surrounded by suburban development. It is noted for Scrub Jays and Bald Eagles and other birds and wildlife.
This week's walk will be co-hosted by Jim Rogers, a local scrub jay expert who volunteers for Audubon Florida's Jay Watch program and the Oscar Scherer scrub-jay census program. During our walk, Jim will share how the scrub jay census works, why banding is important, and much more.
There is a Park entry fee of $5 per car. Meeting location provided by Park personnel at entry. The trails are sandy. Walks cover about 2 miles and take about 2 hours.
Registration is appreciated but not required.
